Add Color to an Object

You can add background and foreground color to objects in the report. The foreground color applies to the text within objects.

Tip: The TOC Report sample report in the GO Data Warehouse (query) package includes objects with color. For more information about The Sample Outdoors Company samples, see Sample Reports and Packages.

About this task

When you open one of the color windows, such as the Foreground Color window, you can save up to eight colors as favorites. Saving colors as favorites is useful when you define a custom color. When you save a custom color as a favorite, you do not need to reenter the RGB color values when you want to use the color elsewhere in the report.

Favorite colors are stored in cookies. As a result, favorite colors are shared across all Report Studio users.

Procedure

  1. Select the object.
Tip: To quickly select the parent of an object, click the object, and then click the select ancestor button select ancestor icon in the title bar of the Properties pane.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click the background color button background color icon or the foreground color button foreground color icon.
    • In the Properties pane, double-click the Background Color or Foreground Color property.
  3. To apply an existing color, click the Basic Colors tab or Color Swatch tab and choose one of the available colors.

Use a basic color to select a color from a small set of colors. Use the color swatch to select from 216 available colors.

  4. To apply a custom color, click the Custom Color tab and type values in the Red, Green, and Blue boxes.

    The values must be hexadecimal.

  5. If the object is an extensible visualization and you want to specify the transparency, under Transparency (%), type a percentage value or use the slider to set the transparency to the value that you want.
  6. To save a color as a favorite, click Set as favorite.

If you save a color with a transparency value as a favorite, the transparency is applied only when you add the favorite color to an extensible visualization.

Tip: You can modify or replace a color that was saved as a favorite. Click the favorite color, make the changes that you want, and click Set as favorite.
